Sree Neelakandeshwarar Temple though technically located in Kanchipuram District is just on the outskirts of Chennai Metro beyond Porur and on the way to Kundrathur. It is a rare Chennai City based Kethu Parihaara Sthalam. The Presiding Deity here is Sree Neelakanteswara Swamy who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and His Consort is Aadhi Kamakshi who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathy. The Prime Deity gets  His name since he gulped a deadly poison called Aalakala Visham and held it on to His throat due to which the Lord Himself turned blue and hence the name Neelakadeshwarar. It is a Kethu Dosha Parihaara Sthalam since it is believed that this Lord drives away all the Ill effects of any Devotees  visiting this Temple. This Temple is one of the Navagraha Temples of Chennai City (Thondai Mandalam)  devoted to Kethu Bhagawan and so there is a steady flow of Devotees coming here on any given day. There is a Temple Sacred Tank or Pushkarani but it has to be cleaned sooner than later. There is a stone Nandhi and a Bali Peedam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum.  Goddess Aadhi Kamakshi is in a separate Sub Shrine and She too is considered omnipotent here. There are  Sub Shrines for Chandikeshwarar and Kaala Bhairavar.  Maha Periyavar had visited this Temple once. Sankadahara Chathurthi, Pradhosham  and all Tuesdays are considered to be very auspicious here.
