Nedungunam is a small village close to vandavasi in Thiruvannamalai District. This Temple is also known as Balambigai Udanurai Deerkachaleswarar Temple and Nedungunam is also known as Nedunkundram formerly.  The Presiding Deity is God Shiva in the form of Sri Dheerkachaleswarar and Goddess in the form of  Sri Balambikai.  The Temple is more than 1200 years old and is believed to have been built by the Chola Kings. Sri Dheerkajaleswarar is in the form of a Shiva Lingam in the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum whereas His Consort has a separate Sub Shrine and is known as Sri Balambigai.  On entering the Temple there is a Paadala Lingam much below the surface level of the Temple and Devotees may have to go down by several steps in utter darkness to have a glimpse of this Baadala Lingam and a small Nandhi which is placed before Him.  The Temple has Sub Shrines for Sri Suriyan, Sri Chandiran, Sri Suga Brahma Rishi, Sri Valampuri Vinayagar, Sri Kaala Bhairavar, Sri Iyyappan, Sri Srinivasa Perumal, Sri Dhakshina Moorthy, Sri Lingothbhavar, Sri Brahma, Sri Chandikeshwarar, Sri Durgai and Sri Murugan whi is flanked by His Consorts.  To appease the Rain God there is a separate Shrine for the Saptha Mathas viz. Sri Brahmi, Sri Maheswari, Sri Goumari, Sri Vaishnavi, Sri Varahi, Sri Indrani and Sri Chamundi. 

The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Vilva Tree beneath which God Shiva, Goddess Parvathi along with their sons Sri Ganesha and Sri Murugan as a family Bless the Devotees depicting as though they are Blessing them from the Kailaya Malai or Mount Himalaya and this place is neatly enclosured and painted in gorgeous colours.  There is a Navagraha Sannadhi within the premises.  This Temple has its Madapalli or Temple Kitchen functioning from a nearby building were Annadhanam and food items are prepared on Pradosham and other festive days.  This Temple does not have a regular Priest and hence the needs of the Temple are takan care of by a Trust viz. Sivanadiyaar Thirukoota Arakattalai whose head is Mr.Pachaiappan.
