The Temple is located in a small village called Olundiyappattu in Vanur Taluk in Villupuram District much closer to the neighbouring Pondy. Sri Arasalishwarar Temple is also known as Thiru Arasili and it is located on the Tindivanam to Pondy Road around 2 Kms away from the Main Road. Sree Arasilishwarar or Thiru Arisali is the Presiding Deity who is an incarnation of God Shiva. Some call the Presiding Deity as Sri Ashwatheswarar too. His Consort in this Temple is Sri Periya Nayagi Ambal who is Goddess Parvathi and She is called by few other names such as Sri Kusasundari and Sri Brahannayagi.   The Temple is East facing and has a 3 tiered Rajagpuram. The entire Temple is enclosed with concentric granite walls. It is supposed to have been built by the Chola Emperor Kulathunga Cholan. It is believed that Sage Vamadeva made several visits to this Temple to worship Sri Arasaleeshwarar.

On entering the Temple there is a 16 pillared Mandapam in which a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram and a Neivedhiya Peedam or a Bali Peedam are kept. Apart from this there is a small Nandhi Vaahanam which is kept facing the Sanctum Sanctorum through a small gap. The Swayambhu Shiva Lingam or God Araleeshwarar could be seen in the Moolasthanam and along with the Main Deity the Urchavamoorthy Idols too are kept. Facing the Moolavar is another Nandhi Vaahanam and close to it are a few Naaga Devatha Idols. Sri Periyanayagi Ambal occupies a separate Shrine and Blesses Her Devotees facing South. Facing Her Shrine is a Simha Vaahanam. On either side of the Ambal Sannadhi are the Idols of Sri Avudaiyar and Sri Nageswari. There are Sub Shrines for Naalvar, (Appar, Sundarar, Thirugnana Sammadhar and Manikavasagar), Sri Varasiddhi Vinayagar, Sri Maha Vishnu, Valli Devasena Samedha Sri Subramaniyar, Sri Narasimhar, Sri Anjaneyar, Sri Brahmma, Sri Vishnu Durgai, Sri Chandikeshwarar, Sri Vaishnavi, Sri Chandi, Nagadevathai, Sri Kaala Bhairavar and Sri Suryan. Sri Dhakshinamoorthy is very special here since Sri Natarajar's Idol is etched on top of it and it is believed that students who come here and Pray before Him would pass out with flying colours. The Navagraha Sannadhi too is found close to it.

A Temple Chariot is safely kept under a tinned roofing near the main entrance. There is a huge Pushkarani which has to be cleaned since it is full of weeds and reeds. Close to the Pushkarani is a cemented podium enclosing a Neem and Arasa Maram which are intertwined and beneath it several Naga Devathas Idols are kept along with a Vinayagar Idol. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Arasa Maram and the Pushkarani or Sacred Tank is called as Vamadeva Theertham. This Temple was last consecrated in the year 1986 on the occasion of the 60th Birthday of His Holy Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchipuram.  Festivals like Pradosham, Maha Shivarathiri, Thiru Karthigai are celebrated in a grand manner. There is an image on the ceiling of the Temple which depicts a Snake swallowing the Moon and it is hence said that this Temple is a Navagraha Dosha Parihaara Sthalam. This Temple is a Parihaara Sthalam for Poosam or Pushya Naksthram. This Temple is not under the State Government control but is looked after and managed well by Mr.Anand.
