Several centuries ago, it is believed that a King came to this place for hunting and he saw a bright and resplendent Lotus and ordered his soliders to pluck it for his sake. Despite several attempts none of his soliders could do it and the King grew furious and he drew his arrow and hit the Lotus. The flower was brought down but the whole place was full of blood oozing out from the shredded flower. After sometime the King regained his consciousness and pleaded to God Shiva to forgive him for his blunder. Immediately the shredded flower changed itself to a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam as it is stands now.
