Sri Sivaloganathar Temple, Gramam or Thirumundeecharam, Viluppuram District, Tamil Nadu

Thirumundeecharam is also called as Thirumundeeswaram while a few other villagers locally call it as Gramam. Sri Sivalokanathar Temple is located on the main road leading to Thiruvennainallur. It is a Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam with a five tiered Rajagopuram facing East. The full name of the Temple is Sri Selvambikai Udanurai Sri Sivaloga Nathar Temple. The Presiding Deity is also known as Sri Mundeeswarar or Porkalam Kodutha Nayanaar. He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and is in the form of a Shiva LIngam. His Consort here is Goddess Selvambigai or Selva Nayaki. She has other names like Soundarya Nayaki and Kaanaar Kuzalai. Goddess Selvambigai is seen in Her Shrine in a standing posute and is East facing. Several centuries ago, it is believed that a King came to this place for hunting and he saw a bright and resplendent Lotus and ordered his soliders to pluck it for his sake. Despite several attempts none of his soliders could do it and the King grew furious and he drew his arrow and hit the Lotus. The flower was brought down but the whole place was full of blood oozing out from the shredded flower. After sometime the King regained his consciousness and pleaded to Lord Shiva to forgive him for his blunder. Immediately the shredded flower changed itself to a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam as it is stands now. On entering the Temple there is a Dwajasthambam and a Bali Peedam and the Idols of Vinayagar and Murugan are installed on the walls close to it. While entering the Sanctum Sanctorum the Idols for Naalvar viz.Thirugnana Sammandar, Sundarar, Thirunavukkarasar and Manikavasagar are kept. Two Nandhi Bhagwan Idols facing the Sanctum Sanctorum are kept. To the right of these is a multi pillared Mandapam where various Vaahanams pertaining to the Temple are kept safely. Just before the Moolasthanam two Dwara Baaalakas named as Thindi and Mundi are seen. There is a pair of another Dwara Baalakaas on the threshold of the Moolasthanam. There is a Sub Shrine close to this where Lord Nataraja could be seen and this kept open only during Arudhra Dharisanam and Thirumanjanam days. Around the Koshtam there are Idols for Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Vishnu Durgai and Chandikeshwar. There are Sub Shrines for Niruthi Moola Ganapathy, Siddhi Vinayagar, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar, 4 Lingams, Suryan, Bhairavar Nagendrar, Durgai, Ayyanar, Sapthamathas viz. Brahmmi, Maheswari, Koumari, Varahi, Vaishnavee, Mahendri and Chamundi. There is a Navagraha enclosure too. There are facilites to conduct Divine festivals and Wedding here. The Temple does not have a Kitchen. The Temple has two huge Compound Walls of varying heights and between them there is a Temple Garden or a Nandhavanam. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is Vanni Maram and the Pushkarani or Sacred Tank is Brahmma Theertham or Mundaka Theertham. Pradhosham, Theipirai Ashtami, Sankandahara Chathurthi, Aani Thirumanjanam, Navarathri, Shivarathiri, Thiru Karthigai are celebrated in a grand manner. The Temple gains significane since it is believed that any lost or stolen wealth is retrived if the aggrived person comes to this Temple and prays sincerely.
