This Temple is also called as Marutheswarar Temple and T.Edayar is the short form of Thiru Edaiyar or Thiru Idaiyaru. This Temple is situated in Viluppuram District near Thirukovilur and has been built on the banks of River Pennai. It has a 3 tiered West facing small Rajagopuram and facing the Rajagopuram is a Balipeedam and a small four pillared Mandapam. It is to be noted that there is no Dwajasthambam or Flag Staff for this Temple. On entering the Rajagopuram is another Balipeedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. On either side of the Moolasthanam there is a Naagar Vigraham along with a Ganapathy Idol. Within the main Temple there is a Bhairavar Vigraham on the left and beyond it is a Natarajar Sabai. Likewise on the right are the Ivar which includes Sri Maraignana Sammandar, Thirugnana Sammandar, Appar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar. The Presiding Deity is Sri Marudeeswarar. He is also known as Sri Idaiyatru Nathar who is a Swayambumoorthy and an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Presiding Deity is West facing and in the form of a Shiva LIngam. His Consort is known as Sri Gnanambikai and She is also known by another name as Sitridai Nayagi. Her Shrine is East facing and She is seen here in a Abhaya Hastha standing posture. This Temple is the 13th Siva Sthalam in the Nadu Naadu and it is one among the 276 Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam. Around the Koshtam there are Vigrahams for Sivathavaneshwarar, Durgai, Chandikeshwarar, Brahmma, Lingothbhavar, Dhakshinamoorthy and Narthana Ganapathy. There is a Sub Shrine for Suga Brahmma Rishi who is seen here with a Parrot face and a Human body. There are Sub Shrines for Sapthamathas and along with them Selva Ganapathy and Sarveshwarar are also seen. Likewise there are Sub Shrines for Bala Marutha Ganapathy and Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniya Swamy and Agastheeswarar. There is a Navagraha enclosure too. Sage Agasthiyar is said to have visited this Temple during his lifetime and he has installed a Shiva LIngam which is still worshipped as Sri Agastheeswarar. T.Idaiyaru gains more prominence since Maraignana Sammandhar happens to be from here. This Temple is famous since it is believed that delayed marriages gets His approval if such Devotees come and Pray to Him sincerely. This is not a Govt. Temple. The Sthala Viruksham is a Marudham Tree and the Sacred Tank or Pushkarani is Virudhapinakini which means River Pennai and Sitridai Theertham which is actually a Well. The Temple has a well maintained Ghoshala where several Cows and Calves are very well looked after. All types of Dhoshams could be driven away by coming and praying here for which the Devotees need to buy just Garlands or Vasthrams for the Presiding Deity. Aatru Thiruvizha is a well celebrated function here drawing overwhelming crowd on these occasions.
