Parikkal is a landmark place in Ulundurpet Taluk of Villupuram District. Parikkal Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy is located a few Kilometers away from the GST Road. In ancient days Parikkal was called as Parikkalapuram. It is believed that King Vasantharaja, a staunch Devotee of Sri Narasimha Swamy initiated this Temple. The Temple has a Gopuram on top of which is a coloured Idol of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal. The Temple has an iron enclosure within which a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Dwajasthambam or a Kodi Maram are seen facing the Moolasthanam.
The Presiding Deity is Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy who is an incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu. His Consort here is Goddess Kanakavalli Thaayar. Some Devotees refer Sri Kanakavalli Thaayar as Sri Komalavalli Thaayar. In the corridor there are Shrines for Sri Varadharaja Perumal, Sri Vinayagar and Sri Garudan. Generally, Sri Narasimha Swamy Temples are noted for their aggressive fury but this is the only Temple in India where the Sri Narasimha Swamy and Sri Kanakavalli Thaayar are seen embracing each other. This is called in Tamil as Alinganam and He is the only Alingana Sri Narasimha Perumal in India.
Another unique aspect of this Temple is that two Anjaneyas viz 1) Veera Anjaneya and 2) Baktha Anjaneya are found together Blessing their Devotees. It is astounding that Sri Anjaneya Swamy in this Temple gets the 2nd right for the Thirumanjanam, ahead of even Sri Kanakavalli Thaayar. This Temple was razed to the ground during the Moghul Invasion. Subsequently Veera Narasimhan rebuilt and renovated this Temple with granites brought from the neighbouring Karnataka. Still the Cholas and Pallavas took keen interest and had lend their helping hand to bring this Temple to this level. It is believed that King Raja Raja Chola I had built the Sacred Tank or Pushkarani of this Temple. The Temple Vimanam is called as Ashtakona Vimanam. It is also believed that this Temple brings miracle to the Physically and Mentally Challenged and also those suffering from Marriage Hardships. This is one among the 4 Narasimha Swamy Temples found in this region and the inscriptions here go on to show as to how rich the Temple was historically. The three other Lakshmi Narasimha Temples of this region are 1) Singirikudi, 2) Poovarasankuppam and 3) Anthili.
The Temple has undergone a recent renovation and Kumbabhishekam. Now it presents a very appealing and gorgeous to look at. The Temple has a Chariot or Temple Car of its own. Free Annadhanam to Devotees is a hallmark of this Temple. Many Madhva communities of Karnataka have this Temple as their Kula Deivam. There is a staunch belief among the Devotees that those coming here would be rid of all their ailments, debts, miseries etc. The Pushkarani or Sacred Tank of this Temple is Nagakoopam. Devotees coming by their own vehicles may find it cumbersome to park their vehicle closeby. Swathi Nakshatram Days, Narasimha Jayanthi, Garuda Seva and Vaikunda Ekadesi are celebrated in style. Lighting of Gingelly Oil and Spearding the Navadhanyam and Writing the Wishes of the Devotees is a hallmark of this Temple. This Temple is revered by all Perumal Devotees as an important Prarthana Sthalam.
