Thiruvennainallur is an important religious centre of Villupuram District. The full name of the Temple is Sri Janakavalli Thaayar Samedha Sri Vaikundavasa Perumal Temple. This is an East facing Temple with a five tiered Rajagopuram. Beyond the Rajagopuram is a Neivedhya Peedam or a Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram and a Garudalwar's Sub Shrine looking West towards the Moolasthanam. The Presiding Deity is Sri Vaikunda Vasa Perumal before whose Sannadhi are two black Idols of the Dwara Balaakas who stand guard on either side and they are known as Jayan and Vijayan. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Vaikundavasa Perumal is seen in a standing posture facing East. Flanking Him on either side are His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Urchavamoorthy Idols are placed just before the Idol of the Moolavar and He is known as Sri Prayoganathar.

The outer peripheral of the Temple has the Shrine of the Thaayar who is known here as Sri Janakavalli Thaayar. She is seen in a sitting posture Blessing Her Devotees. Interestingly most pillars of the Temple are cylindrical in appearence. There are Sub Shrines for Sri Narasimha Perumal, Sri Alwars and Sri Andal Nachiyar.It is said that this Temple was built even before the 10th century. The Inscriptions here mention that the Chola Kings like Raja Raja I, Raja Raja II, Koperun Cholan and Kulothunga Cholan evinced great interest in this Temple. The Pandya King Sundara Pandiyan too improved this Temple. The Sthala Viruksham here is Pinna Maram. The Temple has a Pushkarani or Temple Tank of its own and is called by the name Chakkara Theertham. The Temple has an exclusive Chariot / Temple Car. The Temple is well maintained by the Authorities of Ahobila Mutt.
