Sri Gokarnath Temple or Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Kudroli, Mangalore, Karnataka

This Temple is also known as Gokarnanatheshwara Kheshtra and it is located in a busy Kudroli area of Mangalore City. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Shree Gokarnanatheshwara who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. This Temple was supposed to have been built in the year 1912 and it was consecrated by HH Narayana Guru. The Temple stands like that of today from the year 1991 after it was expanded and renovated. This Temple was originally built having an eye on the Nath tradition existing then. At the entrance of the Main Gate are a pair of black Elephant Idols attracting the onlookers. The Temple has a multiple tiered Rajagopuram painted in a golden colour. On the threshold of the Sanctum Sanctorum are a pair of Dwarabalakas made out of black stone. Outside the Sanctum Sanctorum is a huge black Nandhi Vaahanam decorated with gold and other coloured painting. There are Sub Shrines for Vinayagar, Saneeswaran, Murugan, Annapoorneshwari, Kaala Bhairavar, Brahmma Sree Narayana Guru and Lakshmi with a Navagraha enclosure nearby. There is a Sayana Mandapam in which Silver Thooli or Silver Cradle is displayed. Between the Sub Shrines of Goddess Lakshmi and HH Narayana Guru is a wooden Palanquin used on festival days. There is a bigger Sub Shrine for Lord Krishna and at its doorsteps is a horse driven Chariot on which Krishna sits and preaches the Geethobadesam to Arjuna. Within this a Sub Shrine for Maha Vishnu, Veerataswaroopar, Vaishnavi Devi. A Ramar Pattabisheka Idol too is seen here and all these images keeps a Devotee speechless and eye captivating. A Silver Chariot or a Temple Car is kept in a special enclosure. Guru Dattareya's Idol is found on a podium beneath a Peepal Tree. There are separate Sub Shrines with huge Idols for Lord Hanuman and Sai Baba. While the Hanuman Idol is made out of Yellow Marble, the Sai Baba's Idol is made out of white Marble. This Temple has a huge artificial Pushkarani or a Sacred Tank built on 19th February 2017 and on the banks of it they have depicted an Image of Lord Shiva in the Himalayas. The Temple has its own Kitchen and it provides fee Annadhanam on all days of the year to the Devotees. The entire Temple complex simply glitters with Maroon, Brown, Red, Black, White and Golden colours and Devotees come here in huge numbers just to have a glimpse and Darshan of Lord Gokkarnath and to see and appreciate the grandeur of the Temple. Close to the Main Shrine are a few Marriage Halls which come under the Temple Administration. The road leading from Mangalore City to Kudroli is always congested. Maha Shivarathri, Navarathree, Ugadi, Deepavali, Rathasapthami and Hanuman Jayanthi are marked as important days of this Temple and they are celebrated in style attracting lots of Devotees from Mangaluru and other far flung areas.
