The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Lakshmi Narasimhar and He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This Temple was built between 1250 and 1260 by the Hoysala King Veera Someshwara by following Hoysala Architecture There are many intricate carvings inside and outside the Temple. This Temple is under care and control of the Archaelogical Survey of India. This Temple is built on a sprawling campus. The sculptures of this Temple depicts many characters form Mahabaratha and Ramayana. There is a small Rajagopuram which is still left incomplete. Actually this Temple comprises of 3 Sanctum Sanctorums which are dedicated to Gods Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Sridhara and Venugopala respectively. All these three Shrines are commonly connected through a closed corridor. All the Vigrahams of this Temple had been carved out of Shaligramams. Like other Temples this Temple too has a Garuda Alwar facing the Sanctum Sanctorum and has a pair of Dwarabalakaas. The compound wall of this Temple was constructed much later by the Rulers of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. Apart from this, the Temple has a Sub Shrine for Maha Ganapathi in which 108 Deities of Lord Ganapathi are kept. There is another Sub Shrine for Goddess Chamundeshwari.
