Sri Puri Mara Thava Muniswarar Temple is located on the Mount Poonamallee main road in Kattupakkam which is close to Poonamallee. This is an South facing Temple with a three tiered golden colour Rajagopuram. There are two ways to enter the Temple and Devotees could choose and enter through the South facing Rajagopuram or through another South facing gate. At the outset there is a coloured South facing Idol of Sri Vazhmuni who is seen in a seated posture. He seems to be crushing a Demon under one of His foot. Before His Shrine is a Trisoolam or Trident which is firmly rooted to the ground. Beneath the Idol of Sri Vazhmuni is a slot in which a small black Idol of Sri Vaalmuneeswarar is seen.

Though the Rajagopuram is seen South facing the actual Temple and the Moolasthanam are East facing. Apart from this South facing Rajagopuram Sri Poorimara Thava Muneeswarar Temple has an East facing Gopuram in which the coloured Idols of Sri Purimara Thavamuniswarar are seen. The Gopuram looks gorgeously painted in contast colours making it look eye appealing to the Devotees seeing it. On either side of this East facing entrance are two leaping Nandhi Vaahanam with a Trident rooted to the ground and close to it is a small Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam. Devotees entering the Temple through the Rajagopuram can see the Idol of an East facing Sri Rajaganapathy. The entrance here has a coloured Image of God Shiva and Goddess Parvathy.

The Moolasthana Mandapam is East facing and is fabulously designed. The ceiling is painted with gorgeous designs. The walls here have various coloured Idols which clearly expalins as to how this Temple came into existence and has developed gradually over the years. This Temple is believed to be more than 300 years old. There are coloured Idols of Sri Muneeswaran, Sri Karuppumuni, Sri Sangilimuni, Sri Vazhmuni and Sri Rathamuni and they are all North facing on the upper side of the Moolasthana wall. The floor of the Moolasthana Mandapam has coloured tiles and looks clean. 

At the threshold of the Moolasthanam are two black Dwara Baalaki Idols. The one on the left side is known as Sri Poovadaikari Amman and the one on the right side is known as Sri Pavadaikarai Amman alias Sri Kaatteri Amman. They have placed a Bronze Paavai Vilakku just before the left Dwara Baalaki Idol of Sri Poovadaikari Amman. The Moolasthanam has two thresholds. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Poorimara Thava Muniswarar is seen as a black Idol in a standing posture. Behind this, is another East facing coloured Idol of Sri Poorimara Thavamuneeswarar who is seen along with a Purimaram. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Naagathamman is also seen within the Moolasthanam.Around the Koshtam of the Moolasthanam the Idols of Sri Poosamuni and Sri Vedhamuni who are South facing. The Idol of Sri Semmuni is West facing whereas he Idols of Sri Vaalmuni and Sri Rajamuthumuni are seen North facing. The inner peripheral of this Temple has the oldest Idol of Sri Aadhi Muneeswarar who is seen East facing with His Divine Stick or Dhandam. 

Opposite to the East facing Gopuram is the Sthala Viruksham known as Poorimaram. Beneath the Sthala Viruksham of this Poori Maram is an East facing coloured Idol of Sri Poorimara Thava Muneeswarar. Close to this is the Temple's Madapalli or Temple Kitchen. Annadhanam is given to the Devotees on Fridays and Sundays. Pournami Oonjal Sevai is done in a grand manner. It is the habit of all the Devotees to perform the Vaahana Poojai for their newly purchased Vehicles. So, on all days new Vehicles are seen lined up for Pooja. This Temple draws numerous Devotees from far and near on Full Moon and New Moon Days. Since the Temple is located on the main road it draws the attention of passersby.
