The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Kachabeshwarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Sundarambigai. This Temple is considered as one of the 108 Shiva Temple that is mentioned in Kanchi Puranam. This Temple is believed to have been built by the Pallava Kings. Though this Temple was built by Pallava Kings it was actually the Chola Kings and Vijayanagara Kings who renovated and developed this Temple to it's current structure. This Temple is built facing East and has a five tiered Rajagopuram and there is another five tiered Rajagopuram at the Entrance of the Sanctum Sanctorum. It consists of an Ardha Mandapam and a Maha Mandapam. Somaskanda Panel can be seen behind the Lingam on back of the Sanctum Sanctorum. In Koshta Mandapam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahma and Durga can be seen. There are Sub Shrines for Gods and Goddesses like Polla Pilliyar, Nalvar, Aadhikesava Perumal, Ashta Buja Saraswathy, Navagrahas, Bhairava,108 Lingam, Sahasra Lingam and 63 Nayanmars. Lord Murugan is seen along with His Consorts Valli and Devasena. There is a Sacred Tank called Ishta Siddhi Theertham . Festivals like Chithirai Brahmothsavam, Chitra Pournami, Margazhi Thiruvadhirai, Shivarathri and Pradosham are celebrated in a grand manner.
