Ayyangarkulam is a small village on the outskirts of Kancheepuram. This Temple is one of the ancient Temple in Kanchipuram. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Sanjeevirayar and He is considered as an incarnation of Sri Anjaneya Swamy. It is believed that some bits and pieces of Sanjeevi Hills fell here while Sri Hanuman was taking the Sanjeevi Hills to Srilanka and hence the Presiding Deity came to be known as Sri Sanjeevirayar. This Temple was built by Sri Lakshmi Kumara Thathachariar in the 14 - 15 century AD. He was a great Sanskrit Scholar during the Vijayanagara period. He has the distinction of being the only person in the entire Vijayanagara Kingdom to hold 2 positions together. He was the Chief Minsiter and also the Raja Guru to the Vijayanagara Ruler.

At the entrance there is a four pillared Mandapam. In fornt of the Sanctum Sanctorum there is a 24 pillared Mandapam where Goddess Lakshmi can be seen facing East. The Presiding Deity of Sri Sanjeevirayar can be seen in a standing posture and is facing North. The walls of the Temple has a Shell like space in which the the Idols of Sri Rama Goddess Seetha and Sri Lakshmana are seen facing South just outside the Moolasthanam. This Temple has a huge Sacred Tank or Pushkarani measuring 150 acres and it is called as Lakshmi Saras. Hanumath Jayanthi and Sri Rama Navami is celebrated in a grand manner here in this Temple.
