Vallakottai is an important Pilgrimage centre located close to Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram District. Vallakottai has almost become a Temple Town now but in ancient times Vallakottai was called as Kottai Nagar, Kottaiyampathi and Kodai Ennum Pathi. It is also said that during those days a Fort or Vallam existed and hence the name Vallakottai. Sri Varadaraja Perumal Koil is actually a very small Temple located just before the famous Sri Murugan Temple situated in Vallakottai.

The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Varadaraja Perumal who is supposed to be an incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu. A Sannadhi of Garudalwar is also seen within the Temple complex just opposite to the Varadharaja Perumal's Moolasthanam.. A huge Pushkarani or Sacred Tank is found close to the Temple. Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Vallakottai gains importance in recent days because Devotees coming to Vallakottai Sri Murugan Temple make it a habit to visit this Temple too.Also the location of Vallakottai is important since it draws lots of Devotees on auspicious and festive days because it is located close to Chennai. This Temple can be frequented easily from Tambaram, Sriperumbudur and Kanchipuram by local bus.
