Kooram is a remote village some distance away from Kanchipuram. The former name of Kooram village was Panchalingapuram. This is a West facing Temple though the entrance of it is located on the Southern side. The Temple does not have a conventional Rajagopuram or a Dwajasthambam. Instead there is a Neivedhya Peedam or a Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Moolasthanam. There are no Dwara Baalakas but instead there is a Ganapathy and a Muruga Idol on the entrance of the Moolasthanam. Unusually there are two Shiva Lingams within the Sanctum Sanctorum. The one on the rear is found with a Yoni Peedam whereas the anterior Shiva Lingam which is bigger in size is called as Bana Lingam. It is noteworthy to mention that Sri Vidhya Vineetha Pallava Parameswarar Temple's Moolasthanam was the first ever to have been built in the Gajabrushtam style resembling the back of an Elephant. It is believed that King Parameswara Varman I of the Pallava Dynasty was insrumental in building this Temple in Kooram and hence the name Sri Vidya Vineetha Pallava Parameswarar Temple. It is worthwhile to mention that this Temple finds a place as one of the 108 Sacred Shiva Temples mentioned in Kanchi Purana. Monthly Pradosham, Maha Shivarathri and Pournami are celebrated in a grand manner.
