Sri Kanaka Durga Temple is also called by the name Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam. This Temple is located on a hilltop which is referred as Indrakeeladri Hills situated on the Banks of River Krishna. Vehicles reaching this Temple have to pass through a Welcome Gopuram which is located at the foot hill of the Temple. Any Vehicle using this motorable ghat road have to pay to the Temple Administration. Devotees visiting this Temple could avail Free Darshan. Similarly there are paid Darshans for which Devotees may have to pay Rs.100/-, Rs.300/- or Rs.500/-. While entering the Temple there are Sub Shrines for Lakshmi Ganapathy and Anjaneya Swamy. The Temple has a gorgeously painted East facing 9 tiered Raja Gopuram. Facing the Moolasthanam is a huge ornamental Dwajasthambam or a Flag Staff. All areas in and around this place are spread with coloured coir mats so that they would mitigate the heat for the Devotees. Close to this is a huge Peepal Tree or a Arasa Maram which is smeared with Turmeric and Kumkum and Prayed. This Peepal Tree is revered as the Sthala Viruksham or Sacred Tree. There are two black Dwara Baalakis on either side of the Sanctum Sanctorum. On top of the Dwara Baalagis Idol there is a threshold in which Goddess Kanaka Durga along with Ganapathy and Murugan are seen. Leading to the Sanctum Sanctorum are three gold plated threshold the Images of Gajalakshmi and other Goddesses are etched. The Presiding Deity of Kanaga Durga is considered to be a Swayambhumoorthy. In the Moolasthanam the Presiding Deity of Goddess Kanaka Durga is found East facing and in a standing posture. She is seen with eight hands and standing on Demon King Mahishasura. She is seen holding a Trident and looks resplendent and eye captivating to any onlookers and Devotees. Gold Images of various Gods are neatly displayed on either side of the Mukha Mandapam facing the Moolasthanam. There is a Vastra Stall close to the Mukha Mandapam. Different Seva Counters for various Sevas could also be seen closeby. The Temple has several corridors and in one of them Goddess Durga is seen is seated on a throne. She is East facing with one leg folded and holding a Trident in one of Her hands. Close to this is the Urchavamoorthy Idol. This area has a mini stage for conducting Divine functions. A Thulabaaram facility too is available for the sake of the Devotees. There is a Palliyarai with mirrors on all sides. A payment is levied to enter the Palliyarai where Shiva is seated in the centre of the Swing and flanked by Durga and Parvathy. Another Sub Shrine for Shiva is found wherein an East facing Shiva Lingam with a Naagabaranam is seen. There are multiple pillars and Idols for Bikshadanar, Gaja Samharamoorthy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Thirupurnathankamoorthy, Visveshvara Swamy, Lingothbhavar, Murugan, Chandrasekaramoorthy, Sathurmukha Brahmma, Veerabadrar, Chandikeshwarar and Viswakbarudamoorthy are kept around the Koshtam here. There are Sthambams meant for 12 Jyothirlingams and 15 Sakthi Peetams. There are Sub Shrines for Pillayar, Natarajar and Sivagami Ambal. Close to this a Navagraha enclosure. There is a Naaga Devatha Sannadhi built in a cave like structure beneath a huge Tree. There is a Sub Shrine for Shanmugar too. The Temple has an exclusive place earmarked for breaking coconuts as an offering. The Temple provides Wheel Chair facilities for the elderly and disabled. They also run a battery car. Mobile phones are not allowed within the Temple premises. Drinking water facilities are provided at several points of this Temple. Facilities exists for Breast Feeding the Babies. The Temple maintains a Ghoshala. This Temple has a car parking where several vehicles could be parked with ease. The Temple authorities run buses from various parts of Vijayawada to the Temple top. The annual Sakambhari is celebrated here with great fanfare. During this 3 day festival Goddess Kanaka Durga changes form to that of Sakambhari or Bana Shankari Amma. Varalakshmi Vritham, Navarathri, Ugadi, Deepavali etc attract lots of Devotees from far and near. No visit to Vijayawada could be completed without visiting the Kanaka Durga Temple.
