Jonnawada is located on the outskirts of Nellore on the banks of River Pennar. An entrance Arch to the Temple welcomes us near the main road. The Presiding Deity is Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Shiva and he is a Self formed Swayambu Murthy. His Consort here is known as Kamakshi Ammavari having a radiant splendour. It is said that this Temple was constructed around 1150 AD and A Srichakaram was installed by Sri Shankaracharya. The Temple's Entrance Door, the Flag Mast, the Gopuram along with it's five Kalasams are made of Pure Gold. It is believed that Devotees who sleep here within the precincts of the temple overnight would be relieved of their Sins and Miseries. It is learnt that Sage Kashyap had graced this Temple during his visit to Mother Earth. A Bathing Ghat has been errected in river Pennar for the Devotees to take a Holy Dip.
