This Temple is also known as the Sun Temple and Arasavalli or Arasavilli is located 1 KM East of Srikakulam. There is a Welcome Arch on the Main Road but cars cannot go beyond this point and they have to be parked on the Main Road itself. This street leading from the Welcome Arch to the Sree Sooryanarayanaswamy Temple is full of Tiffin Shops and shops selling Pooja and alll other Divine articles.. Mobile Phones and Cameras are not allowed inside the Temple complex and they have to be deposited at the counters meant for it near the main gate. There is a ticketing counter for special darshans. It is one of the oldest Temples in India and the AP Govt. gives prominence to Tourism here. The Main Deity of this Temple is Surya Bhagwan and people consider Sunday as the most auspicious day to worship the Sun God. According to the Legends, Lord Krishna ploughed and brought River Nagavalli to this area and built the Sun Temple on its river banks. It was the Kalinga Ruler King Devendra Varma who took great interest in building this Temple in the 7th Century. There is an Indra Pushkarani here and it is believed that it would relieve anyone of their physical pains if they have a dip here. The Soorya Bhagwan is found in the Sanctum Sanctorum along with His Consorts. The Temple is constructed in such a way that twice a year the Sun Rays falls at the Feet of the Presiding Deity and this happens in February and June. There is a Sub Shrine for Goddess Bhuvaneshwari before which a Shiva Lingam is placed along with a Metal Nandhi. There are Sub Shrines for Vishnu, Anjaneya, Kala Bhairava and Subramaniya. The Navagraham is found in a glass enclosure. It is believed that Devotees who come here and Pray for their ailments and other health issues are greatly benefitted. Ratha Sapthami, Maha Shivarathiri, Janmashtami and Vaikunda Ekadesi are celebrated iwith great pomp.
