Appalayagunta is a small village located a few Kilometers away from the Chennai to Tirupathi Main Road. This Temple has an East facing three tiered Rajagopuram. This Temple like any other Vaishnava Temples has a tall Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Garudalwar's Sannadhi which is West facing and looking towards the Moolasthanam. The Presiding Deity here is Sri Prasanna Venkateshwara Swami who is found in an East facing Airconditioned Sanctum Sanctorum in a Abhayahastham posture Blessing His Devotees who come to Worship and Pray to Him. This Abhayahastha posture is said to be the ultimate Blessing posture of any God. It is considered that Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy showered His Blessings on Sri Siddeswara and other Sages here after His Wedding with Padmavathy Ammavaru. He is seen in the Moolasthanam with four hands. His upper two hands is seen holding the Divine Sangu and Chakkaram. His lower two hands portray the Abhaya Mudra and Varadha Mudra. The Abhaya Mudra is said to be very special to this Temple. It is said that Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy was born in Sharavana Nakshatram and hence on those days this Temple has a number of Devotees coming here to seek the Blessings of Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
As this Temple was the first place for the God's union with His Consort Sri Padmavathy Ammavaru He is considered to be very benovolent and most pleasant in granting boons to His Well Wishers and Devotees. There is a separate Sub Shrine for Goddess Padmavathy Thaayar and She showers Her Blessings on Her Devotees. Appalayakunta is also said to be a resting place for Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swami during His entourage to Thirumala. The Temple was initially constructed by the King of Karvetinagaram Sri Venkata Perumal Raju Brahmmadeva Maharaj in 1232. He was keen and promoting this Temple and had presented several metal lamp stands.
There is a Sub Shrine for Sri Anjaneya Swami and another Sub Shrine for Sri Andal Ammavaru. It is said that the Idol of Sri Andal Ammavaru was installed by Sri Brahmma. This Temple is well maintained and meticulously clean by Thirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) since they took over the Temple on 23rd September 1988. The Temple charges various types of fees for different types of Sevas and Darshan. This Temple has a Sacred Tank nearby where Devotees are allowed to take a Holy Dip before having their Darshan. This Temple Tank has been redesigned and is very safely built for the Devotees to take a Holy Dip. A Kalyana Mandapam is available is next to the Temple and many Devotees perform their Wedding here. Likewise a Kalyanakatta is available for Devotees to get their hair tonsured.
