Sree Koormanadhaswamy Temple is located in a village called Srikurmam in Srikakulam. The Presiding Deity Koorma Avathar depicts a Tortoise. As a mark of respect a huge Tortoise replica is placed on a pedestal and kept in a roofed enclosure just before the Welcome Arch through which the Devotees have to come to this Temple. The Main Temple is just 4 Kms away from the Welcome Arch. The Presiding Deity is the second Avatar of Lord Maha Vishnu. The Consort of Koormanatha Swami is known as Koormanayagi or Mahalakshmi. Lord Narasimha is found in a sitting posture in a shrine. It is a 2nd Century built Temple. It is one of the rarest Temples in which the Tortoise image is found along with Vishnu and Mahalakshmi in the Sanctum Sanctorum. This Holy place was estabilished by Saint Ramanujachariya and is just 2.5 Kms from the Sea Coast. This is one of the rare Temples where Devotees are allowed to enter the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Main Deity faces the West unlike other Temples facing the East. The Temple has Twin Dwajasthambams one in the front and the other at the rear of the Temple. The are around 201 Pillars supporting this Temple and most of them bear indelible marks of destruction during the Moghul Regime and there are 127 inscriptions in 4 various languages. This Temple is considered as one of the 16 Abhimaana Pradesams of Saint Ramanujar and the foot print of Saint Chaintanya Maha Prabhu taken in 1512 is still preserved in a special enclosure. The Mural paintings of this Temple could match to those of Ellora and Ajantha Caves. The Temple is a Moksha Sthanam since the last rites to our forefathers can be done here like Kasi, Puri and Gaya. The Entrance of an underground Tunnel is still preserved and it is alleged that we could reach Varanasi and Gaya through this Tunnel. Many great KIngs including Lava, Kusa, Balarama and Saints like Dhurvasa, Adhi Sankaracharya, Ramanujacharya, Narahari Theertha and Chaithanya Maha Prabhu have visited this Temple. There is an enclosure in which more than 100 live Tortoises are kept and taken care off. There is an Temple office and a Temple Kitchen within the Temple Premises. The Dasavathara Statues kept at the rear of the Temple are eye captivating. The Temple Garden or Nandavanam is well Maintained. There is a Temple stall selling all Divine products, books etc of this Koorma Swamy Temple. There is a Pushkarani or a Temple Theertham where a Holy Dip is considered very sacred.
