Koranattu Karuppur is a place located very close to Kumbakonam. The Chola Rulers called this place as Karambhai Naadu. With passage of time Karambhai Naadu was called as Koranaadu or Koranattu Karuppur. It is believed that all the Devas came here to Worship Shivan and Parvathy. That time Shivan revealed Himself as a handsome youth and hence was called as Sri Sundareswarar. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Sundareswarar and He is seen in the form of a Shiva Lingam and is considered as an incarnation of God Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Abirami Ambal. Sage Agasthiyar is said to have come to this Temple and after bathing in the Temple Tank He is said to have Worshipped Sri Sundareswarar. She is taken out of the box and goes out on a procession once a year during the Uthirayanam period. This Temple is also considered to be one of the Thevara Vaipu Sthalam.
