Arulmigu Ramasamy Temple is located in a busy area of Kumbakonam which is a well known Temple Town in South India. The Temple has a five tiered North facing Rajagopuram which is full of coloured sculptures. This Temple is one of the biggest Temples in India that is dedicated to Sri Rama. It is located on the banks of River Cauvery in the Temple Town of Kumbakonam. Sri Rama as we know is an incarnation of Maha Vishnu and He is found in the Sanctum Sanctorum of this Temple with His coronation robes along with Goddess Seetha. This Temple is very unique since Sri Rama is seen here along with His brothers Sri Lakshmana in a standing posture and armed with Bow and Arrows, Sri Bharathan holding an Umberalla and Sri Sathrugan holding a Hand Held Fan. Sri Hanuman is seen depicting and playing a Veena in praise of Sri Rama. Generally in all other Rama Temples Sri Bharathan and Sri Sathrugan are not seen in the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Urchavamoorthi Idols too are seen in the Sanctum Sanctorum. Beyond the Rajagopuram is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram and a Neivedhiya Peedam or Bali Peedam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum.
In one of the pillars an eye captivating sculpture of Sri Anjaneya Swamy is embedded and it is so heart warming to see each and every Devotee standing here and Praying before this Sri Rama Dhoodhan. There are many Gateways leading to the Moolasthanam and at the threshold of each Gateway there is a pair of Dwara Baalakas on either side standing guard to the Presiding Deity. This Temple is associated with the Mahamaham function that comes once in 12 years. The Temple was built in the 16th Century by Raghunatha Nayak and there is a huge Rajagopuram and a 64 Pillared Mandapam where the life history of Sri Rama is portrayed with several images. There are around 219 wall paintings with showcases all intricate details about our great Epic Ramayana. The Temple comprises of the Sanctum Sanctorum, Alwar Sannadhi, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Sannadhi, Sri Gopalan Sannadhi etc.
The Temple has 6 daily rituals at different timings starting from 5 AM to 9 PM. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated here with much fanfare. It is no surprise that this huge Rama Temple is also called as Southern Ayodhya or Ayodhya of South India. Since this Temple happens to be located in Kumbakonam Town there is flurry of North indian Tourists visiting this Temple and chanting Jai Sree Ram.
