Sri Thenupuriswarar Temple is also spelt as Sri Dhenupureeswarar Temple whereas some refer this Temple Durgai Sthalam due to the presence of the Durgai's Shrine here. This Temple has a wide seven tiered East facing Rajagopuram which looks majestic and at the end of the street corner the Temple's Chariot is safely secured in an enclosure. On entering the Temple premises through the Rajagopuram there is a centrally placed East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Vinayagar. Then is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam after which is a Nandhi Bhagwan Idol facing West and looking towards the Moolasthanam. Unlike other Shiva Temples the Nandhi Bhagwan is seen with a Sub Shrine and not beneath a four pillared Mandapam. Next to the Nandhi Bhagwan is a tall metallic Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram.
Close to the Temple Tank of Gnanavavi is a five tiered South facing Rajagopuram. Close to the Gnanavavi Pushkarani is an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Aghnya Ganapathy and nearby is a Vanni Maram beneath which several Naga Devatha Idols are placed circularly. To the right is a huge multi pillared Mandapam whose pillars and ceiling are gorgeously painted in contrast colours. At the outset there is an East facing Stage in which Divine functions could be conducted and Devotees could be made to sit. Next is the East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Bala Dhandayudhapani. He is seen standing alone in His East facing Sub Shrine. Close to this is a huge Deepa Mandapam in which the Devotees light various types of oil lamps. The rear wall of the Deepa Mandapam is embossed with a golden Idol of Sri Patteeswaram Durgai.

Some of the paintings pertain to Sri Vana Durgai, Sri Shoolini Durgai, Sri Agni Durgai, Sri Shanthi Durgai, Sri Sabari Durga, Sri Jwala Durga, Sri Lavana Durga are some of the paintings seen there. Infact Devotees can enter Sri Pateeswaram Durgai's Shrine directly through a North facing five tiered Rajagopuram which would lead them straight to the Shrine of Sri Dugai Amman. The Shrine of Sri Patteswaram Durgai is also refered as Sri Durgambikai Sannadhi. The threshold of Her Moolasthanam has two black Dwara Baalaki Idols standing guard. Atop Her Shrine's Gopuram is a coloured stucco Idol of Sri Durgambikai who is also seen North facing and in a standing posture. In Her North facing Shrine the Presiding Deity of Sri Durgambika or Sri Pateeswaram Durga is seen on the Head of a Buffallo. She is majestically seen in a standing posture and would automatically create a sense of Divinity and fear in the minds of the Devotees Praying to Her. Contrary to Her looks She is immensely benevolent to Her Devotees granting them whatever best is possible from Her side. A huge Neem Tree is also found close to the Durgai Amman Temple and Devotees make it a habit to tie a Divine Yellow Thread around it so that their wishes are fulfilled soon.
