Kothangudi is located close to the Temple Town of Kumbakonam.The full name of this Temple is Sri Meenakshi Samedha Sri Sundareswarar Temple. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Sundareshwarar who is an incarnation of God Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Meenakshi. This Temple lies between River Arasalaru and Thirumalai Rayan Pattinam River. This Temple is considered as Thevaram Vaipu Sthalam. This place was initially called as Koothangudi. This place is also called as Bheemeswaram since it is believed that Mahabarath Beema worshipped Sri Shiva here in this Temple. It is said that this Temple is around 1300 years old and for past 100 years this Temple has become inactive Inside the Sanctum Sanctorum of this Temple Sri Shiva can be seen as a Self Manifested Swayambu Lingam and he is slightly in a tilted position. He looks resplendent to the eyes of His Devotees. Recently in the year 2017 the village people here worked hard in renovating this Temple and performed its Kumbaabhishekam in the same year.Festivals like Shivarathari, Navarathri, Aipasi Annabhishekam, Margazhi Thiruvadhirai are celebrated in a grand manner.  This Temple is a Puthira Bakiya Parihaara Sthalam where Childless couples are Blessed with an offspring.
