The full name of the Temple is Sri Vedantha Nayagi Sametha Sri Visvanathaswamy Temple which is located in a residential locality slightly away from the arterial road. It is believed that this ancient Temple was built by King Raja Raja Chola. The Temple is West facing but it does not have a Rajagopuram. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Viswanatha Swamy and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He is also known here as Naga Viswanathar and Rudhrakseshwarar. This is an important Sani Parihara Sthalam since it was here that Saneeswaran wanted to get the upper hand but knowing this Lord Shiva grew furious and took the form of Kaala Bhairavar and ripped apart Saneeswaran into two. After that Shiva calmed down and turned into a Shantha Bhairavar. On entering the Temple there is a Sub Shrine for Ganapathy and likewise for Subramaniya Swamy. The Moolasthanam looks amazing when seen from outside since it has been carved and built in such a way that the entire Sanctum Sanctorum is driven by horse drawn Chariot. The Temple has a Yaaga Saalai to perform Homam and Yaagam. This Temple is unique since there are two Durgai Amman here. The Temple is unique since it’s the only Temple of its kind where Rudhraksha Kavasa Alangaram is done to Lord Shiva and the Sun Rays falls on the Main Deity daily. The Shiva Lingam of this Temple is equivalent to the power of all the 12 Jyothirlingams. His Consort here is Goddess Vedhantha Nayagi who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi and She is South facing in Her Shrine. It is said that this Temple was built on the initiative of Goddess Vedantha Nayagi and it was built using Lime and Honey. Close to it is an Idol for Saneeswara Bhagwan and Kaala Bhairavar. Within the same area Kasi Viswanathar and Goddess Visalakshi too are seen. This Temple is different from all other Temples and hence called as Bedhamaana Koil. Though the Temple is East facing the entrance to the Main Shrine is from the rear. There are Sub Shrines for Maha Vishnu, Ganapathi, Brahmma, Dhakshinamurthy etc. The Neivedhyam to God Dhakshinamoorthy is unusually done with Cold Rice of the previous day and is called as Pazhaya Saadham. He is known here as Annadhana Dhakshinamoorthy and close to Him, Annadhana Lingams and a miniarture Nandhi Vaahanam could be seen. There is another peculiar Sub Shrine for Pillayar who is called as Kabaala Ganapathy and He is seen wearing a garland made of skulls. There is a colourful structure resembling a five headed Serpant which is actually the Sacred Tank of this Temple and it is known as Yama Theertham. The Sthala Viruksham is a Vilva Maram or a Vilva Tree. On Pradosham and Shivarathri days the Solar Gate or the Surya Nuhaivaayil is kept open for the Devotees. The Rudhraksham of this Temple has special Divine features and it could be bought for a nominal fee. The Temple does not have a car parking and hence Devotees ought to park their vehicles in the street corners only.  Maha Sivarathri and Pradhoshams attract a overwhelming number of Devotees. This is a Raahu, Kethu and a Sani Parihaara Sthalam.
