Thirupudaimaruthur is a small village located close to Veeravanallur in Thirunelveli District. The Temple is located on the right bank of River Thamirabharani in a village called Thirupudaimarudhur. The proximity of the Temple is very important since it is built at a place close to three Rivers viz. River Tamirabarani, River Gadana and River Kothandarama. The full name of the Temple is Sri Gomathi Ambal Samedha Sri Naarumbhunatha Swamy Temple. The Initial construction of the Temple was started by King Maravarman around 1250 years ago. After the Pandyas, the Vijayanagara Kings and the Rulers of Kalakkadu took over the Temple and promoted it to this level. This is an East facing Temple and there are two unfinished structures through which a passage leads us towards the Temple. The Temple has a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram. There are several multi pillared Mandapam and each of these pillars are intricately carved either with some designs or with Divine Images. On entering the Rajgopuram there is an Idol of Veera Marathandan which is West facing. There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a tall Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram which seems to go beyond the roof of the multi pillared Mandapam. Beyond this is an East facing Idol of Sri Dwaja Ganapathy on the left and Sri Subramaniyar on the right. The Pancha Lingam are kept in a multi pillared corridor. Devotees ought to climb 4 to 5 steps after which is another small Neivedhya Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam which is West facing and looking towards the Moolasthanam.

There are two huge Dwara Baalaka Idols which are East facing and who stand guard here. There is an Idol of Sri Vinayagar and Sri Bala Subramaniyar on either side of the Dwara Baalakas facing East. The Moolasthana Mandapam has an Idol of Sri Natarajar along with Sri Sivagami Ambal and seen along with them are the Idols of Sri Manikavasagar, Sri Pathanjalai and Sri Vyakarabathar. A wooden Shiva Lingam carved out of an ancient Marudha Maram is still seen here and highly revered by all Devotees visiting this Temple. In the Moolasthanam Sri Naarumbhunathar is seen in the form of a Scarred Swayambhu Shiva Lingam facing East. Devotees can visibly seen the scared Swayambhu Shiva Lingam which is slightly tilted towards one side and it is alleged that there are horn marks of a Deer. It is to be mentioned here that this Temple does not perform any Abhishekam on the Presiding Deity of Sri Naarumbhunatha Swamy. Instead Oil is applied to the Shiva Lingam. He is a much sought after God not only for the locals but for the people who come from distant places too. He looks dazzling in the glow of the naturally lit oil lamps in the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Consort of this Temple is known as Sri Gomathi Ambal whose Shrine is East facing. In Her Shrine Sri Gomathi Ambal is seen standing on a Sri Chakkaram. The speciality of the Temple is that the Ambal Shrine is located on the right side of the Presiding Deity which is not so in other Sivan Temples. Hence this is called as Nithya Kalyana Kolam. It is believed that the Ambal Deity is made of Rudhrakasha and is supposed to be Omnipotent. There is Sri Vinayagar and Sri Murugan Idol just outside Her threshold facing East, apart from this a small Nandhi Vaahanam facing West looks towards Her Moolasthanam. As a thanksgiving Silk Vasthram, Bangles, Cradles etc are offered to the Goddess by the Devotees as their offerings.

Facing the Moolasthanam is an Idol of Sri Suryan and Sri Brahmmadhandam. The Temple's peripheral has North facing Idols of the 63 Naayanamaars, Karuvur Siddhar, Maha Vishnu, Subramaniyar, Juraharar, Sapthamathas, Yoga Dhakshinamoorthy and a few Shiva LIngams. The Moolavar Koshtam contains Idols of Sri Dhakshinamoorthy, Sri Maha Vishnu and Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Brahmma, Sri Durgai and Sri Chandikeshwarar. Usually only Sri Maha Vishnu is seen in the Koshtam but here Sri Mahalakshmi too is seen along with Sri Maha Vishnu. The reason for this is said that Sri Indran came here and offered Prayers to Maha Vishnu to get rid of His Brahmmahathi Dosham. Similarly Maha Vishnu and Mahalakshmi appeared before Indran and gave a glimpse of themselves together and absolved Him off His Brahmmahathi Dosham. In the pillared corridor of the Temple there is an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Vinayagar with a small Moonjur Vaahanam facing Him. Parallel to this at the right corner another East facing Shrine of Sri Subramaniyar who is seen flanked by Valli and Devasena. Facing this Sub Shrine is a Mayil Vaahanam. In the South facing pillared corridor there is a Saneeswarar Idol close to which is a huge Sahasra Lingam and then is a Saraswathi Idol. Close to this is the South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kaala Bhairavar. The Idol of Sri Chandra Bhagwan is seen nearby facing West. The Navagraha Sannadhi is seen close to the Dwajasthambam and it looks slightly bigger than the Navagraha Idols of other Temples. The Temple has a Kalyana Mandapam docorated with coloured stucco Idol which looks attractive. This Kalyana Mandapam is to the right of the Rajagopuram while entering the Temple. The Temple also has a Madapalli. The Sthala Viruksham is Marutham whereas the Theertham is known as Thamirabharani. Pradosham, Thiruvadhirai, Thai Poosam, Maha Shivarathiri, Panguni Uthiram etc draws lots of Devotees from distant areas. The Temple gains more prominence since it is one of the Pancha Gurusthalam.
