The full name of the Temple is Sri Avudainayaki Samedha Sri Ammainatha Swamy Temple and it is located on the outskirts of Cheranmadevi in Tirunelveli District. It is an East facing Temple with a five tiered Rajagopuram. This Temple is supposed to be the 2nd amongst the Nava Kailayam Temples in Thirunelveli District. Many refer this Temple is Chandran Sthalam and Devotees with Kadaga Raasi often visit this Temple for their well being. At the outset there is a huge multi pillared Mandapam in which there is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam, a Nandhi Vaahanam and a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram. Proceeding further there are Idols of Sri Sastha and Sri Yoga Narasimhar to the left facing East. A coloured Image of Shivan, Parvathy, Vinayagar, Murugan and Nandhi Bhagwan are found close these Idols. To the right is another coloured Image of Sri Subramaniyar along with Valli and Devasena. Heading towards the Moolasthanam is another multi pillared Mandapam with a North facing Idol of Sri Adhikaara Nandhi. There are also West facing Idols of Sri Suryan and Sri Chandran which look towards the Moolasthanam.
There are two Idols of Sri Ganapathy and Sri Murugan who are East facing and their Idols are embossed on the walls. The Temple has two huge Dwara Baalaka Idols who stand guard. Close to the left Dwara Baalaka Idol is Sri Anukyai Vinayagar who is also seen facing East. Looking towards the Moolasthanam is a small Nandhi Bhagwan. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Ammainathar is seen East facing and in the form of Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. He is considered as a Saviour and He saves His Devotees from Chandra Dosham. The Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram has a small Idol of Nandhanar who seems to look towards the Moolasthanam. Hence to afford proper viewing Nandhanar the Nandhi Bhagwan which is closer to the Moolasthanam is slightly away from the straight line. It is said that due to this Sri Nandhanar is able to have a glimpse of His favourite God without the obstruction of Sri Nandhi. Hence there is a steady inflow of Devotees who come particularly on Mondays. Around the Koshtam of the Moolavar there is a Sub Shrine of a South facing Sri Dhakshinamoorthy and Sri Chandikeshwarar respectively. The Consort of this Temple is Sri Avudai Nayagi who has a separate East facing Shrine in the peripheral. Her Shrine is made up of multiple pillars and Sri Avudai Nayaki Ambal is seen East facing and in a standing posture. There are no Dwara Baalakis but instead there is a small East facing Idol of Sri Ganapathy to the left of Her Shrine's entrance. This Ambal is said to be in a Nithya Kalyana Kolam.
The inner peripheral of the Temple has a Naalvar Idol comprising of Sri Appar, Sri Sundarar, Sri Thirugnana Sammadhar and Sri Manickavasagar, Sri Juradevar, Sri Veerabadrar, the Sapthamathas comprising of Sri Maheswari, Sri Brahmmi, Sri Vaishnavi, Sri Goumari, Sri Vaarahi, Sri Indrani and Sri Chamundi. Then is an Idol of Sri Vinayagar and three Siddhars. All the aforesaid are North facing. The East facing corridor is Kanni Vinayagar and close to this is another Sub Shrine for Sri Maha Vishnu is seen with the Naaga Kanni. There is a Shiva Lingam of Sri Kasi Viswanathar and an Idol of Sri Kasi Visalakshi who are East facing. There is a South facing Idol of Sri Gajalakshmi and another South facing Idol of Sri Saneeswara Bhagwan who is seen in a standing posture. This Temple has a sparkling Sub Shrine of Sri Natarajar who is seen along with Sri Sivagami Ambal and He is seen South facing. Karaikaal Ammaiyar and Sri Manikavasagar are the other two Idols seen in this Sub Shrine.
The outer peripheral of the Temple has a huge North facing Idol of Sri Juradevar who is seen in a standing posture. The outer peripheral has a South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kaala Bhairavar which is different from the Kaala Bhairavar's of other Shiva Temples because He is found in this Temple standing alone and without His Divine Vaahanam. The Temple has a huge built compound wall in which an East facing Idol of Sri Ganapathy is seen embossed. The Temple has an exclusive Madapalli for preparing Prasadams. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Banyan Tree and the Pushkarani is River Thamirabharani. The Temple has a Nandhavanam which can be improved by leaps and bounds. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Theipirai Ashtami, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
