Sri Kodha Parameshwarar Temple is located in a hamlet called Sengani which is close to Kunnathur Village in Palayamkottai Taluk in Thirunelveli District. The full name of the Temple is Sri Sivagami Ambal Samedha Sri Kotha Parameshwarar Temple. In reality this is an East facing Temple with an entrance but this entrance is under lock and key. Instead the Temple has a South facing grill gate entrance with a tin sheet roofing. Devotees have to enter the Temple through this South entrance. Unusually the Temple has a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a West facing Nandhi Vaahanam looking towards the Moolasthanam. This Nandhi Vaahanam is seen in an iron enclosure beneath a four pillared Mandapam. Just beyond the Nandhi Vaahanam if Devotees could look upwards a partially visible Gopuram a Shiva Lingam is hooded Serpent and flanked by two Nandhi Vaahana coloured Idols are seen. Devotees cannot enter through East but instead have to climb a few steps through the Southern entrance to reach the Temple premises.
To the left is the Moolasthana Mandapam with a gold plated threshold. Apart from this there are two gold plated images of Sri Raahu Bhagwan and Sri Kethu Bhagwan which are embossed and they look splendid to any onlookers viewing them. The threshold of the Moolasthanam has a gold plated Shiva Lingam flanked on either side by two Rishaba Vaahanam. At the doorsteps of the Moolasthanam is an Idol of East facing Sri Anukyai Vinayagar. In the Divine Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Kotha Parameshwarar is seen East facing and in the form of a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. He is believed to be Omnipotent and more than 900 years old. It is believed that there is a Serpent like marking on the Presiding Deity of Sri Kotha Parameshwarar which is not generally visible to the onlooking Devotees since the Shiva Lingam is smeared with Sandal, Vibhuthi and Kumkum. Devotees can clearly view this Serpent marking on the Shiva Lingam during the occasion of Abhishekam. Around the Koshtam of the Moolasthanam a South facing Dhakshinmoorthy Idol and another South facing Chandikeshwarar Idol could be seen. The Ambal here is known as Sri Sivagami Ambal and Her Shrine is seen South facing. Within this Shrine Sri Sivagami Ambal looks dazzling in Her standing posture and Blesses Her Devotees.
The outer peripheral of the Temple has an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kanni Vinayagar and there is a Moonjur Vaahanam within His Sub Shrine. Parallel to this, there is another East facing Sub Shrine in the outer peripheral and this is that of Sri Shanmugar. In this Sub Shrine Sri Shanmugar looks eye captivating and is seen with 12 hands besides having His Consorts Valli and Devasena flanking Him on either side. There is a South facing Kaala Bhairavar Sub Shrine in the outer peripheral of the Temple. It is believed that this Temple was built by the disciple of Sri Agasthiyar whose name was Romarishi. It was this Romarishi Munivar who was instrumental in installing this Swayambhu Shiva Lingam of Sri Kotha Parameshwarar. Years after that the place became desolate but the Pandya Rulers were fortunate enough when they came across this Swayambhu Shiva Lingam of Sri Kotha Parameshwarar and built a Temple in this manner. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Theipirai Ashtami, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. The Temple is quite small for its name and fame. Still it is the fourth amongst the Nava Kailayam in Tirunelveli District. The Temple lacks a Rajagopuram and a conventional Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram. Some say that the Kodi Maram could have be been plundered by the Moghuls.
This Temple is well known in this District since it is a Raahu Sthalam or a Raahu Dosha Nivarthi Sthalam. Devotees who wish to do Raahu Parihaara Pooja can call Sri Sundararaja Sivachariar in his Mobile for which he normally charges Rs.3,500/- and he says that the Prasadam would be sent to such Devotees through Post.
