Sri Bakthavatchala Perumal Temple is built on the Banks of River Tamirabharani in Chernamahadevi. This is a West facing Temple but without any Rajagopuram. Instead the Temple has a massive compound wall with a West facing entrance comprising of huge wooden doors. On entering through an unfinished Gopuram there is a huge multi pillared Mandapam to the right with an East facing entrance. The multiple pillars of this Mandapam looks unusually cylindrical. Within this multi pillared Mandapam is an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Adhi Shankarar. Next to Idol of Sri Adi Shankarar is a portrait of Sri Kanchi Maha Periyava. Apart from these there is a small Vinayagar Idol too.

Though the Temple has a West facing entrance the actual Moolasthanam is East facing. Hence Devotees after entering from the Western entrance may have to circumambulate and take a right turn and climb a few steps to reach the Moolasthana Mandapam. This Moolasthana Mandapam consists of multiple pillars and each of these pillars are beautifully designed and intricately carved wih deft hands which makes any Devotees stunned by its appearence. There is No Dwajasthambam to this Temple. On enquiring with the Purohit it comes to light that there had been a Dwajasthambam for this Temple in earlier times but it was vandalized during the Moghul Invasion after which No Dwajasthambam came into existence. Instead there is a Neivedhya Peedam or a Bali Peedam which has been placed on a beautifully designed podium. Usually in other Perumal Temples the Garudalwar is kept within a Sub Shrine. Unusually in this Sri Bakthavatshala Perumal Temple the solitary West facing Garudalwar Idol stands facing the Moolasthanam without an overhead Sub Shrine. Before entering the Moolasthanam there is an Idol of Sri Bhooma Devi who is seen to the right of the entrance in a standing posture.

In the Moolasthana Mandapam there is another South facing Sri Garudalwar who is seen along with Sri Vishwaksenar. Close to these are a few Naaga Devatha Idols. Likewise the Idol of Sri Yoga Narasimhar is also seen embossed on the wall and facing North. In the East facing Moolasthanam the Presiding Deity of Sri Bakthavatsala Perumal is seen standing alone with four hands. He looks awesome to the eyes of the Devotees and is considered to grant any boon for the sake of His Devotees. The solitary Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Bhakthavatshala Perumal too is seen within the Sanctum Sanctorum. It is said that Sage Vyasar with the help of Sri Brahmma had installed the Idol of the Presiding Deity in those days. The peripheral of the Temple has nicely sculpted Idols in all places. To the rear of the Moolasthanam there is a West facing Idol of Sri Narasimha Swamy who look amazing. The Temple does not have any exclusive Thaayar Sannadhi but instead the Idol of Sri Bhooma Devi alone is seen to the right while entering the Moolasthanam. It is believed that this Idol of Sri Bhooma Devi Thaayar was found in River Thamirabharani and brought out several centuries ago. The Temple's outer peripheral has a huge black East facing Idol of Sri Yoga Narasimhar. The Temple has a Madapalli and a Nandhavanam. The Temple has a small Ghoshala.

The Temple has two huge concentric walls. The outermost peripheral of the Temple has a huge Viruksham in the form of a Arasa Maram. Beneath this Arasa Maram there is an East facing Vinayagar Idol with a few Naaga Devatha Idols closeby. The Temple has a twin control system for it. While the Pooja within the Moolasthanam is monitored by the Tamil Nadu Government HR & CE. All other remaining areas of the Temple is under the control of the Archealogical Survey of India. The Temple is considered as a Sarva Dosha Nivarthi Sthalam.
