  • Sri Padagalinga Swami Temple, Malaiyankulam, Thirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu

Malayankulam is a small village located a few kilometers away from Kallidaikurichi in Tirunelveli District.  It is believed that a Kerala King built this Temple around 1000 years ago.  This Temple is known as Padagalinga Swamy Temple or Pillayar Temple or Sastha Temple.  The Temple is very unique since there are two Shiva Lingam viz. Mahalingam and Padaga Lingam and both the Shiva Lingam are small in size and occupy the same Sanctum Sanctorum.  There is a small Nandhi for Lord Shiva nearby.  In the Sanctum Sanctorum, behind the Shiva Lingams are Padagalinga Nachiyar and Chitraputra Dharma Sastha.  There are various Vaahanams like Elephant, Horse and Nandhi just opposite to the Presiiding Deity.  Some families who do not no their Kula Deivam consider Padagalinga Swamy or Padagalinga Pillayar as their Family Deity.  The Temple also has Idols of Naga Devathas and Navagrahas.  Aavani Avittam and Panguni Uthiram are two notable events performed in this Temple and during these Mother Padagalinga Nachiyar is brought out with special Alangarams or Decorations.  The Sthala Viruksham is a Vilva Tree and the Punniya Theertham is Padagalinga Theppam.
