Kakkalur is in the outskirts of Thiruvallur and Sri Yoga Gnana Dhakshanamoorthy Peedam is the full name of the Temple and the location of the Temple is in a residential locality known as Poonga Nagar. There is a North facing entrance with a grill gate. This Temple is a small Temple and it does not have any Rajagopuram or Dwajasthambam. Sri Yoga Gnana Dhakshinmaoorthy Temple located in Kakkalur is very unique since it is one of the rare Temples in the whole of India wherein Sri Dhakshinamoorthy is the Presiding Deity. This Temple is also known as Guru Sthalam. At the outset there is a small North facing Idol of Sri Ganapathy. Above the Vinayagar's Idol is a Portrait of Sri Mahadevar. To the right of this Vinayagar Idol is a light stand to light oil lamps. They have erected a huge temporary tin sheet roofing in the Temple. There is a South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Gnana Mangala Saneeswarar who seems to be looking towards the Moolasthanam. He is seen around 8 Feet tall and in a standing posture.
Generally Sri Dhakshinamoorthy is seen South facing in other Temple but in this Temple the Presiding Deity is known as Sri Yoga Gnana Dhakshinamoorthy and hence He is seen North facing in a seated posture. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Yoga Dhakshinamoorthy is seen Nine Feet tall. In this Temple the Presiding Deity of Sri Yoga Gnana Dhakshinamoorthy portrays Himself as a Guru or Teacher of Wisdom, Yoga and Music. Hence the number of Devotees espicially kids and youths turn up in great numbers to seek His Blessings. Sri Yoga Gnana Dhakshinamoorthy seems to rest one leg on the ground and seems to crush a Demon under His feet whereas His other leg is folded. He is seen with four arms. His upper right hand carries a Akashamala while His upper left hand carries Fire. His lower right hand shows Gnanamudhra whereas His lower left hand shows Abhyamudhra. The main Shrine could be circumambulated and Pradhakishanam done by the Devotees.
He is a much sought after God particularly on Thursdays and Saturdays. Generally the Temple Purohit is available for Pooja only on Thursdays and Saturdays. Special Poojas Abhishekam are performed on every Thursday and Saturday. The Temple also has a Temple Office within its premises. Guru Peyarchi and Sani Peyarchi are celebrated in a grand manner. This Temple is considered as a Guru Parihaara Sthalam and Sani Parihaara Sthalam.
